Gear

Secs, Inc. carries an extensive line of standard gears which includes hub and hubless spur gears, anti-backlash gears, miter and bevel gears, worm gears and worms, helical gears, cluster gears and pinion shafts. Please select from any of the gear categories below to view more information.

Spur Gear

Spur gears are the most common type of gears. They have straight teeth, and are mounted on parallel shafts. Sometimes, many spur gears are used at once to create very large gear reductions.

Spur gears are used in many devices that transmit power.

Spur gear can sometimes be louder than other gears types.  Each time a gear tooth engages a tooth on the other gear, the teeth collide, and this impact makes a noise. It also increases the stress on the gear teeth

Anti-Backlash Spur Gear

An anti-backlash gear is a gear having minimum or no backlash

  • Designed for precision applications
  • Springs are used for tensioning
  • Available in spur, bevel & worm gears

Miter & Bevel Gears

A Bevel/Miter gear is a gear having teeth cut on the body,
perpendicular to the axis of rotation

  • Gear teeth are placed conically on the body
  • Designed to transmit motion & power between right angle shafts , which rotates in the opposite direction
  • Ideal for high load applications

Worm Wheel

A worm Wheel is a gear having concave teeth cut on the rim

Worms

A Worm is a shaft having helical cuts (threads) on the

surface, perpendicular to the axis of rotation

  1. Wheel: similar to helical gear except teeth are concaved in
  2. Worm: shaft with screw threads (V-Type), similar to ordinary screws
  3. Designed to transmit motion & power between right angle shafts which rotates in the opposite direction
  4. Worm & worm wheel is the most compact type of gear system
  5. Smoothest & quietest form of gearing
  6. Worms are available in three threads (1, 2, & 4)

Helical Gears

A Helical gear is  a gear whose teeth are cut at an angle on the rim

  • Spur gear teeth curved, teeth are cut at an angle
  • Designed to transmit motion & power between either parallel or right angle shafts (90, non-intersecting), which rotates in the opposite direction
  • Ideal for high load applications
